Unbalanced Chess Set

This chess set is not conventional. It is representational of the Game World for 'Present. A Child.' . It mimics a core mechanic in the game.

An excerpt from the Game Design Document of 'Present. A Child' :

'A child navigates a familiar world – solely trying to survive and stay away from the beings that have a slight red hue. The players goal is to avoid the red tinge or stop individuals receiving the red tinge from them and each other. To progress the story you will need to solve puzzles that occur outside of the game world. Using the narrative clues found inside the game to progress the story.'

The fact this chess board is unbalanced makes it unfair. But who has the advantage. The red can easily eat the extra pawn.

The chess board is shiny with a varnished wood. Protective. It is purple and white. Purple being a balanced mix of the blue and red pieces and the white also holding that neutral feeling. But who knows if this purple has more red or blue in it? Only someone familiar with colour theory would know or maybe even consider this.

The pieces themself are worn, the wood is fraying with it's natural colour seeping through. some pieces have more intense colour than others giving them a different quality of life. They also look like they could've been restained. But by who? They could easily be restained again. Why did the creator make an extra blue pawn?

What it means is up to the player. To me the extra blue pawn represents The Child.
